The present translation task aims at studying the first segment of the first chapter in the book History of the Development of Agriculture (Volume 8) in Japan. The book mainly introduces that Japan, after Meiji Restoration, achieves the transition from the traditional to the modern agricultural technology and how to promote agricultural development by vigorously introducing the advanced agricultural technology from abroad. This translation report discusses the text of agricultural technology on the Agricultural Problems during War Preparation and Wartime Periods (Chapter Three Section One).This translation report is grouped into four parts. The first part is the introduction, which states the research background and explains the main content of this report. The second part is the description of cases, which briefly introduces the project, the significance of the project, the process of the translation and structure of the report. The third part is the analysis of the case, which first states the difficulties and solutions to the translation, the theory of functional equivalence and its application value. At last, the third part introduces the translation methods that the author uses in accordance with the theory of functional equivalence. The fourth part is the summary of translation practice, which states the author’s lesson of translation, enlightenment of translation and the unresolved problems.The author hopes to provide insight for the translation on agricultural practice based on the theory of Functional Equivalence. Therefore some translation strategies are concluded such as conversion, addition and reduction, synthesization and division and sequence adjustment. The author hopes to offer some relevant guidance to the translation on agricultural Japanese through the research of this report, which would effectively accelerate the quality of translation on agricultural Japanese and enlarge the effect of agricultural to the outside world communication.
