This Report is based on excerpts from Letters of a Traveller written by William Cullen Bryant, of which the chapter 27-33 is the translation assignment. With the great development of science, technology, economy and trade, together with more and more convenient transportation, the connection between countries is becoming increasingly close and the intercultural exchanges are more and more popular and varied. Travel notes as a character form that records what the author has seen and heard become popular. Similarly, as the communication between different cultures is increasingly close, the translation of travel notes highlights its importance. The chapter 27-33 of Letters of a Traveller written by William Cullen Bryant records what the author had seen and heard in European countries, which is very beneficial for us to understand and observe the European society in the middle of the 19th century.The report will give a thorough description of the completion of translation practice. It includes four major parts—the translation task description, the translation procedure, the case analysis and the conclusion. The translation task description presents the background, the purpose and significance of the task, and briefly describes the frame of this report. The part of translation procedure mainly analyses through the preparation before translation, the theoretical basis of translation—Functional Equivalence, and the choice of translation strategy. The case analysis mainly analyses the three parts of words translation, sentence translation and the remedy of the background knowledge. The conclusion part is a brief summary of the translation report.
