“Chinese distinguishing words”, which are a special type of words in Chinese language system, can demonstrate event attribute, work as attribute and modify nouns. For instance, man, woman, gold, silver, large-scale, small-scale, dear, long-haul, daily, etc.Advanced Thai local students who learn Chinese distinguishing words often face problems. The study on the basis of the review of previous research, problems existing in the advanced stage of Thai local students in Chinese distinguishing words acquisition and errors as the research object, contrastive linguistics, second language acquisition, error analysis and theory of language are the foundation of the research, This study uses research methods of questionnaire survey and statistical analysis, in order to analyze the basic characteristics of the differences and similarities between Chinese and Thai distinguishing words. Chinese distinguishing words selected from “The Graded Chinese Syllables, Characters and Words for the Application of Teaching Chinese to the Speakers of Other Languages” and “Chinese Proficiency Test Syllabus Level 6” are used in questionnaire survey to obtain data from advanced Thai local students. The methods of statistical analysis are used to analyze the obtained data for error classification. The essential cause of the errors is negative transfer of first language and target language. Finally the study puts forward some suggestions on Chinese distinguishing word acquisition in Thailand, for instance, teaching materials and tools, teaching methods and learners.
