A Reflective Research Report On E-C Translation Of Technology License Agreement

Based on the translation of a technology license agreement made by and between ADVANTEST CORPORATION and SHANGHAI NCATEST TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd, this report aims at putting forward some solutions to problems in the author’s translation of the technology license agreement entrusted by SHANGHAI NCATEST TECHNOLOGIES Co., Ltd. to Shanghai BrightWay Information Technology Co., Ltd., which has assigned the task to the author. The current draft is the first version.As an agreement in business, this Technology License Agreement has characteristics of both legal and commercial documents, and therefore the author is required to be equipped with the knowledge of both law and business to ensure the accuracy of the target text in the translation. Besides, the difficulties in translation result from some puzzling words and phrases as well as long and complex sentences and the author has solved them by applying such methods as switching parts of speech, converting passive into active voices, and division or restructuring the translated long sentences.By making a detailed analysis of some challenging sentences in the document before coming up with solutions, the author wishes to present references for later authors who might also be faced with similar documents for translation. The author also wishes to add something, even insignificant as it seems, to further economic cooperation projects between China and the rest of the world.
