This is a translation practice report on a trade contract, Bottling and LicenseAgreement, between Tampico Beverages Inc. and Anhui Xingnong Food Co., Ltd,. Thematerial mainly includes the authorization of Tampico Beverages Inc. the use of its baseand trademark to Xingnong Food Co., Ltd, license territory, the preparation, package andsale of the product, and the rights and obligations of both parties, etc. Translation of thiscontract fits into the category of pragmatic translation. Legal language scholars Bhatiaonce pointed out that "of all the professional and disciplinary texts, legal genres display anoverwhelming use of some of the most typical intertextual and interdiscursive devices,which often create specific problems in their construction, interpretation and use,especially when placed in interdisciplinary contexts". And he also said that "legaldiscourse, especially legislative provisions display a variety and depth of intertextual andinterdiscursive links rarely noticed in any other discourse. From this point of view,intertextuality could be viewed as the right principle of contract translation. This reportmainly consists of the following four chapters. Chapter one is the introduction, includingbackground and object of the translation practice, source text overview and structure ofreport. Chapter two mainly discusses intertextuality and the translation practice. Chapterthree is about translation difficulties and the analysis of the translation from three aspectsincluding words, sentences and discourse. Chapter four concludes with the experience,lessons and some unsolved problems in the translation practice.
