With the rapid development of cultural exchanges among the countries around the world as well as the deepening of China’s opening up, an increasing number of tourists are drawn into Chinese natural sceneries, cultural landscapes and the historical sites, etc. Therefore, the English translation of tourist texts is progressively starting to play a significant role in the process of Chinese and foreign exchanges which affects the cultural communication and the foreigners’ understanding of Chinese culture. The author takes The Handbook of Tourist Attractions in Lianshan District as the source text and then introduces the process of completing this translation task. In the meantime, it studies the using of translation strategies in this translation practice with typical cases under the guidance of skopos theory and gains the relevant experience in the translation practice.This translation report is composed of five parts. The first part describes the whole translation task, covering the brief introduction to this translated text as well as the summary of the characteristics of tourist texts. Part two shows the translation activities’ process, including the preliminary work for the translation task, the selection of the tools of translation, and any other procedures in the translating, containing the first sketch and the proofreading. Moreover, the third part is the purport of this translation report, which emphasizes on translating culture-loaded words from the viewpoint of the skopos theory. In addition, the author summarizes and cites some typical examples to analyze the difficult points of the translation task, namely the translation of culture-loaded words in light of linguistic and cultural background. Furthermore, the author sums up a few of the translation strategies employed in this report, including literal translation, free translation, omission, amplification, and adaptation. In the fourth part, the author points out her own deficiencies and some improvements she will make. In addition, the author endeavors to offer some relevant advice to the tourist texts translation. The fifth part makes a whole conclusion of this translation task.The final objective of this report is correlated with the significant role of tourist texts translation plays in accelerating the development of China’s tourism industry. In addition, the author expects to afford some advice and references for other translators in the field of tourist texts translation.
