The origin of the translation is the book World War I, which is published in the magazine All about History in May, 2015. The author chooses the Preface and the first 12 chapters to translate. The total words are more than 10000.Nida’s Functional Equivalence Theory emphasizes the equivalence of the communicative function, rather than the linguistic form. According to this theory, during the translating process, the translators should be focused on the meaning and spirit of the original text rather than the original word and form. In this translation report, the author takes World War I as an example, and tries to find the appropriate translation methods to achieve functional equivalence. The historical documentary text aims to state the historical facts to the readers. Therefore, translator should try to be faithful to the original works. The author analyzes the translation strategies from two levels: the vocabulary level and sentence structure level. On the vocabulary level, the author applied liberal translation, four-character structure and conversion of part of speech in translation to achieve functional equivalence; while on the sentence structure level, the author applied division and combinational method, amplification and omission method to achieve functional equivalence. This research includes translation practice and translation report. The translation report is composed of five parts, including the task description, task process, task process, implications and conclusion.
