The translation material of this report is selected from Chapter One and Chapter Five of Pay written by Cornell University professor Kevin F. Hallock aiming at economics and human resources research. Chapter One of this book is the brief introduction to each chapter, while Chapter Five tells about business strategy and compensation strategy. Translating this book is of practical significance because readers could gain more knowledge about pay and also raise their salary by the suggestions in this book. The translation material is an economic text. More use of subordinate clauses and parenthesis is one of the writing characteristics of this book. On the basis of being faithful to the original version, the translator also adopts some translation skills such as word formation, amplification, omission and changing sentence order to solve translation problems for the smoothness of the translation. The translation report has four parts:the description of translation task, translation process, case analysis and summary. The first part briefly introduces the translation material and the significance of selecting and translating it. The second part describes the translation process, which involves preparations before translation and translation difficulties. The third part is case analysis that gives examples in words, syntax and discourse aspects for illustrating the adoption of translation skills and the solutions of translation difficulties. The fourth part is the summary on this translation.Through this practice, the translator gains a lot in deepening the understanding of economic text translation, accumulating more translation experience and improving translation skills. However, some disadvantages such as lack of professional knowledge and translation skills can also be found. Thus, it is still a long way to go for being an excellent translator who constantly needs to broaden his or her horizon, acquires more knowledge and improves translation skills.
