A Report On The Translation Of Wuzhong: The Land Of Hui Ethnic Group Along The Yellow River (Excerpts) Under The Guidance Of Translation Variation Theory

This is a translation practice report. The source text comes from the first five chapters of the book Wuzhong:the Land of Hui Ethnic Group along the Yellow River, which briefly introduces historical information and natural resources of Wuzhong, as well as major achievements in economic and social development, cultural exchange and tourism development. This book, generally regarded as a guide book, is characterized by its vivid language as well as abundant contents and is suitable for people from domestic and foreign countries; meanwhile, it belongs to the typical publicity material.The report generalizes some translation methods according to the cultural terms as well as long and complicated sentences. It can be divided into four chapters; the first chapter is a description of the translation task, including an introduction to the source text and the translation purposes. The second chapter analyzes the textual features of the source text and the whole translation procedures. Chapter three is the case study, which aims to solve the problems under the guidance of translation variation theory. The author of the report adopts six methods, which are amplification, intercompilation, deletion, narration, condensation and combination to convey the original meaning of the source text. The last chapter is about the implications from the practice, during which it could be concluded that due to the limitation of translator’s understanding to the source text and the lack of translation experience to the publicity material, some sentences could not be translated accurately and precisely. Therefore, the translator should improve the theoretical knowledge and the competence of solving problems during translation.
