The report of the translation practice is based on the E-C translation of Mothers and Other Monsters. The translation task is performed by the author of the report independently. This novel is created by the American writer Maureen F. McHugh. There are 13 stories that have been collected in this novel, and the author of the report has translated two of them-Ancestor Money and In the Air. These collection offer poignant and sometimes heartwrenching explorations of personal relationships, and discover the inner world of human and the dynamics of families. It is learned that the work has no Chinese version at present, so the author of the report took it as the translation project. The author of the report discusses the difficulties in the translation of Mothers and Other Monsters, and then puts forward the translation methods under the guidance of functional equivalence theory. The author mainly uses the translation methods of back translation, back translation with footnote, free translation, free translation with footnote and literal translation. The author of the report expects that this report can give some references to the translation work of the parallel texts.
