With the deepening of globalization, the technical exchanges between different countries and regions around the world are growing dramatically, which make the translation for English Science and Technology (EST) plays a much more important role than ever. As a major branch in translation study, EST translation features in objectivity, accuracy and conciseness with strict requirements on translators. Thus, it is necessary and useful to give an analysis of the characteristics of this kind of texts, and make some discussions about the translation strategies and principles of this type in the hope of providing some practical implications and references to translators of the same kind of documents. This is a report on the translation of an English technical text, mainly based on my translation practice of an installation manual. The source text has six chapters in total, including general information of the coaster, technical specifications, installation and erection phase, mechanical components installation, train assembly on track, installation close out and installation acceptance test plans, etc. In this report, the reporter chooses the first three chapters as the source text.Under the guidance by the Skopos theory, this report consists of five chapters. Chapter one provides a brief introduction of background and significance of the report. Chapter two is task description, including the general information about the project and requirements of the client. Chapter three is the translation process, which illustrates the preparation works related to this project, selection of translation theory and principles, and proofreading and revision in the post-translation phase. Chapter four is the case study based on the theory of "Skopos", which makes a detailed analysis of the translation problems in the perspective of lexical level and syntactic level.
