As intercultural communication increases, the role of the interpreter, as a facilitator in this process, is becoming more and more important. The interpretive theory is one of the most influential theories in interpretation.Traditional theories tended to view translation as a process of two stages:understanding and expression. The interpretive theory proposed a new way to view the translation process, thus disproving the previous understandings in this regard. The interpretive theory made a breakthrough by putting forward a triangle model for the translation process, including understanding, deverbalization and expression. The interpretive theory prioritizes “meaning” over other considerations and believes it is“meaning” that needs to be conveyed by interpreters instead of linguistic signs. The interpretive theory comes offers a good explanation to the translation process and, at the same time, informs translation process in many ways. The goal of this paper is to study the interpretation of Top CEO Speech from English to Chinese. It analyzes difficulties that may occur during the three steps of consecutive interpreting, i.e, listening and understanding, retention and output, and then puts forward relevant methods in the framework of the interpretive theory to solve the problems. Besides, this report also attaches importance to preparation before a translation task takes place including vocabulary, background and speech style. With a better understanding of the interpretative theory, the author tries to reflect upon the process of interpreting in order to optimize her interpreting skills. The report has five chapters: task introduction, preparation before task, difficulties, relevant methods and summary.
