Globalization renders the academic exchange and communication become increasingly closer worldwide. The international academic conference is an important way of academic exchange among which webinar is an emerging form with the development of information technology. Simultaneous interpreting, as the most efficient interpreting type, is frequently adopted in the academic conference. On the one hand, the speech presented on the academic conference usually covers the latest theoretical research and practical applications on a certain theme or subject, and has the features of academic reports which are highly professional and technical. On the other hand, since speakers come from different parts of the world, many of them are non-native speakers of English. Influenced by their mother tongues, these non-native English speakers may have huge differences when speaking English in accents, speech speed and ways of organizing words. Therefore, the requirements of the academic conference are much stricter for simultaneous interpreters. This is a report based on the author’s simulated simultaneous interpreting of the Improving City Management through Data and Analytics. With the evaluation criteria of interpreting quality and Gile’s Effort Model, this report will apply case study to explore the usage of simultaneous interpreting strategies to get better interpreting effects. At last, through self-reflection and conclusion to figure out how the interpreters can get better interpreting output in the future practice within the similar interpreting situation to not only generate positive guidance in the future practice, but also serve as a modest spur to induce the other relevant researchers and bring some useful inspirations.
