The Application Of Translation Memory In Translation Practice

With the advent of global economic integration and the further exchanges between domestic and international markets, China’s translation industry is developing rapidly. Computer-Aided Translation(CAT) tools are applied to improve the quality and productivity of translation. CAT is different from machine translation in that it does not solely rely on the automatic translation of computer software. The core technology of Computer-Aided Translation is Translation Memory(TM). In the process of translation, referential translations will be presented if the source sentence matches the one stored in TM at certain matching rates set by the translator. The translator can decide whether to adopt or reject the referential translations. The quality of TM has an important impact on the translation process and its output text.Based on the translation project of Search Engine Marketing, Inc, this thesis elaborates the functions of a TM in the process of translation. This thesis recommends organizing a TM team and optimizing the work flow in order to construct a high-quality TM.
