This is an English contract. As the sixth part of X HYDRO-POWER PLANT AND ASSOCIATED SUBSTATIONS, Employer’s Statement of Requirements details the general items of the employer’s specific demands on the program. This report is based on the English-Chinese translation of the Requirements, with an aim to get a better knowledge of the language features of business contracts, through which the author generalizes the translation techniques that can be applied into the E-C translation of the same kinds.This report consists of seven chapters. The first chapter mainly introduces the reason why the author writes this report and makes a brief analysis of of the source text. The second chapter describes the confirmation of the source text, the preparation of the translating tools, the choice of the translating methods and the translating plan The third part is about the translating process. The fourth chapter discusses the common approaches to translation in the contract translation, which includes translating of the technical terms, archaic words, modal verbs in the contract, passive sentences and most of the attributive clauses embedded in the source text. After that comes Chapter five which emphatically focuses on the focal and difficult translating problems of “shall” in the contracts, the passive sentences, and the attributive clauses from the perspective of Construction Grammar. Chapter six is about the proof-reading of the translation and the quality control. The final chapter summarizes the experience that I accumulated in the course of translation. |
