This report is based on the author’s practice at TEDxXi’an Conference involving several Chinese speakers and an American listener. Problems posed by new words, cultural gap, different sentence structures, illogical messages and unnecessary messages are analyzed. Under the guidance of Gile’s Effort Model, the paper tries to solve these problems and improve the author’s quality of production. It is concluded that strong proficiency in both Chinese and English and encyclopedic knowledge are the prerequisite of an overall comprehension of a speech. What’s more, enough effort should go to sharpen her analytical and critical thinking skills, so as to improve the production. Besides, practical experience and preparations are also necessary for interpreters to successfully finish an interpreting task.
