| From “Returning to Asia†to “Asia-Pacific rebalancing†proposed in2012, thenew U.S. strategy in Asia gradually came into forth. Facing with the rising of China inthe overall national strength as the representative of the emerging powers inAsia-Pacific region, the Obama administration realized that the United States shouldpromote “pivot to Asiaâ€. However, it is not enough to increase hard-power resourcesalone in Asia, because it has a negative impact on the national interests of the UnitedStates in the region. Therefore, in order to respond effectively to the challenges of thefuture of the Asia-Pacific region, public diplomacy should be adopted as a tool to keepthe so-called "strategic balance" in the region. The United States must also promotethe core values of American democracy in countries of the Asia-Pacific so as toconsolidate and continue to enhance the soft power of the United States in the regionby constructing the Asia-Pacific “collective identityâ€. This article will focus on thestudy of the U.S. public diplomacy for the implementation of the “Asia-Pacificrebalancing†strategy, and put forward some countermeasures for China to deal withchallenges from the U.S. public diplomacy in theAsia-Pacific region. |
