A Study On Home-based Care Services Construction Based On Social Support Theory

Along with the social economic development, life expectancy rises, and ageing population increases rapidly. Because of family miniaturization, traditional family endowment has been unable to fully meet the needs of the elderly in reality. We need to explore new endowment ways to cope with the challenge of an ageing population. China has vigorously advocate the development of home-based care so that the elderly can enjoy professional services without leaving their residential communities. Various areas actively explore the home-based care because it can solve the daily care of the elderly. This paper, based on the theory of Social Support, taking home-based care services of Qixia District of Nanjing City as the object of study, aims to explore the home-based care services for the elderly. The old men of Qixia District stay away from the city, their income is less and their cultural level is lower. The content of the social support should accord with the characteristics of old men and their demands, not only including the material supports, daily care, but also paying attention to their spiritual and mental health, and helping them realize their self-worth.The home-based care services of Qixia District under the government promotion has made significant progress, but there are also some shortcomings, mainly as follows:lack of specific social support implementation staff, mismatching of social support object and content, the shortage of social support funds and inadequate utilization of social resources by pension service centers. By drawing on the advanced experience of home-based care service at home and abroad and summing up their commons and advantages, this paper compares the differences of social support system between the home-based care services model at home and abroad and Qixia District, to construct the social support system of home-based care services. In accordance with the division of the main social support, the social support system of the home-based care services is analyzed from three levels, namely:macro elements ——the governmental factors, the medium level——the social factors, micro level——the family factors. By exploring the factors of each lever, this study clarifies the responsibilities of every subject respectively, and make it clear that social support system of sustainable operation requires project classification, coordination, dynamic adjustment and optimization of saving abilities.Based on the theory of Social Support, the study combs the construction of home-based care from the social subject, object and social support mediator three aspects, to improve the operating mechanism. Aimed at the existing problems of Qixia District home-based services, this thesis puts forward resolutions from the aspects of external social support system construction and internal itself construction. As the home-based care services guide, the government should perfect the relevant laws and regulations, train professional personnel, increase financial investment, and create a respect for the elderly social fashion, to make a favorable external environment for the development of home-based care services. The home-based care services centers should improve their service abilities by expanding service contents, innovating service ways and integrating social resources. We believe that, in the joint efforts of the society, home-based care services will continue to improve, to provide satisfactory service for the elderly, to narrow the gap between urban and rural public services and to promote the construction of harmonious society.
