Researching The Status Of Rural Community Social Capital

In order to study the current situation and existing problems of rural community capital, this paper studies the rural community social capital through an empirical investigation of 20 villages in Shandong Province. The paper analyzes the factors that affect the rural community social capital and proposes some countermeasures to improve the stock of social capital. The article consists of five chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the research background, significance, literature review, the core concepts and six dimensions.The second chapter analyzes the status of community social capital from the six dimensions in rural areas of Shandong, and puts forward the existing problems. These dimensions include community participation, sense of belonging, cooperation, sharing, reciprocity and trust. The study finds that rural community social capital stock of Shandong province is not enough. Although there are abundant of reciprocity and sharing behaviors, the behaviors show formalization. The community participation is seriously insufficient. The villages lack group activities and brain work. The community attachment is substandard. The cooperation of village is very poor. The trust of villages shows the pattern of difference sequence. A large number of villagers trust their families; however, they do not trust village committee and strangers.The third chapter analyzes the influence factors. On the one hand, this paper measures influence of individual and family factors by using Pearson variance test. On the other hand, this paper analyzes the influence of social capital from different macroscopic respects—political, economic, culture and social.The fourth chapter puts forward the countermeasures to promote the rural community social capital. In order to improve the stock of social capital in rural communities, we should take four aspects into consideration. Firstly, the construction of economic organization should be strengthened. Secondly, the social governance should be created. Thirdly, education construction should be emphasized. At last, harmonious and stable interpersonal relationship needs to be built.The fifth chapter summarizes the thesis.
