Our new curriculum concept emphasizes learning useful geography for life andcultivating geographical qualification for citizens. Modern society is in theinformational age, with the rich information of the image system becoming more andmore popularization and internationalization. In middle school geography teaching,the geographic image system is the performance means of geographic informationvisualization, imagery, and specification and the important characteristics ofgeography. Closely linked to the geography teaching, this thesis has carried on thedetailed classification of geography images and discusses practical application ofgeographic image in classroom, as well as the specific teaching methods by selectinga large amount of geographic image system of teaching examples. After that, studentscan develop their ability of reading the geographic images, cultivate their learninginterests and to improve the geographic literacy.In this paper, Based on regionality, comprehensiveness and spatiality ofgeography and the requirement of geography curriculum reform, this thesis found thatgeographic images play an important role in geography teaching and put forward theapplication research of geographical image in the high school geography teaching.With the theory of multiple intelligences, constructivism theory, informationprocessing theory, under the guidance of geography thinking method, using theliterature research, this paper analyses the application of geographic image in the highschool geography teaching the application. In the process of research, the thesis firstlysummarized the own points and completed the literature review by reading andresearching the researches of the predecessors of geographic image and summarizingthe development course of geography image system. Followed by comparativeanalysis of related literature of geographic image classification method, the thesissecondly sorted out the own classification and summarized its characteristics bycarefully studying each kind of geographic image. Finally, after the study of teachingmethods of each kind of geographic image, this thesis aims to improve the skills ofthe application of geographic images of the teachers and the students. After the above study, this thesis found, according to the different expressingforms, that the geography images in geography teaching in high school can be dividedinto maps, geographical landscape, geographical map, geological statistics map,contour map and cartoon and that each kind of geographic image has distinctivefeatures. For example, the prominent characteristic of map in geography is theregional characteristics under the framework of the three elements of the threeelements of geography, and the characteristic of geographical landscape is intuitionand vividness. So its distinctive characteristics should be highlighted when applied thegeography images in the high school geography teaching. Selecting a number ofgeographic images in geography textbooks(PEP) for high schools, studying theapplication method of each kind of geography image and carrying on the caseteaching, the author expect that the application ability to the geography images of theteachers and the students can be improved.
