A Comparative Study On Mate Selection And The View Of Marriage Of University Students Of China And Pakistan

Family has the significance in human’s life, and the evolution of family has the closerelationship with social economy. To study the problem of family under the certain culturaland economic background begins with marriage, because marriage is the base of family.The study of mate selection and view of marriage play the import roles in the research offamily, and also embodies the value of certain class, having the distinct features. This paperinvestigates the university students of Pakistan and China about the view of marriage andmate selection in semi-structured interview, applying to the comparative method, and to knowthe differences of both countries. The aspect of mate selection, two countries have bothmodernity and tradition. But Chinese students have more modern than Pakistan’s in mateselection, epically taking the positive attitude toward cross-marriage and premaritalcohabitation. In aspect of marriage, Chinese students value the quality of marriage and acceptdevoice; the students of Pakistan value the stable and permanent marriage and hard to acceptthe divorce.This paper consists five parts: Firstly, the paper provides the research background, thepurpose of the study, as well as the significance of the thesis. Secondly, the comparisonbetween China and Pakistan in the difference of mate selection from appearance, age;personality, family background and cross marriage. Thirdly, this paper shows the samenessand difference of the view marriage through the purpose and meaning of marriage stated bythe students of two countries. Fourthly, this paper explores the main factors for causingdifference of two countries, after the comparison of mate selection and the view of marriage.Finally, this paper draws a conclusion and research results.
