| Self-efficacy was proposed in1977by American social psychologist Bandura.Self-efficacy refers to the subjective judgment of people that tells if they couldsuccessfully carry out an act or not. In other words, it is the learners’ judgment, belief,self-grasp and feelings when they carry out the learning activities. The concept which wasput forward won the wide attention in different areas. On the basis of previous research,scholars have come to a conclusion: an individual’s self-efficacy has significant influenceon personal growth. The learning in high school is a very important period for students. Inthe meantime, a good method of learning and learning attitude will affect the student’slearning interest. So far, the researches about students’ self-efficacy in high school are stillrelatively few. The paper is written according to Bandura’s self-efficacy theory, based onthe questionnaire survey, to intend to study the characteristics of high school students’self-efficacy.In this paper,240students from a high school joined in the survey. Research dataincludes the results of the survey. By using Excel and SPSS software, the researchershope to achieve the desired results.The analysis of related data shows the following results:(1) Parental encouragementand social practice are the primary sources of English self-efficacy in high school.(2) Thelevel of high school students’ English self-efficacy is low. It shows especially in Englishlistening and speaking self-efficacy.(3) In gender, boys’ English self-efficacy is all lowerthan girls’.This paper consists of the following five parts. The first part introduces thebackground and significance of the study. The second part describes the concept, function,sources and measurement of self-efficacy and the related research of self-efficacy ofscholars at home and abroad. The third part discusses the research questions, objects andtools. The fourth part describes the data statistics and analysis of the results of the surveyin detail. In the fifth part the specific recommendations to enhance the high schoolstudent’s English learning self-efficacy and the limitation, prospects of this thesis have been proposed through analysis.The characteristics of the high school students’ self-efficacy are showed through thesurvey. Teachers should fully understand the situation of students’ English self-efficacy,in order to help students find problems and correct them as well as gradually improve thestudents’ interest and get better achievement in learning English. |
