Research Of Career Dilemma Of Professional Social Workers

Our country is in a period of drastic changes now, the changes of social structure cause new social problems emerging continuously. China in new environment needs the social works. In fact, social works have been a great development in China, but the research on social worker occupation status has showed that the professional occupation of social workers is not ideal, which mainly manifests in the low recognition, high occupation burnout degree, frequent occupation flow, high turnover rate and so on. Therefore, the study of these non ideal reasons in depth—Occupational dilemma is very important to promote the building of social work professional personnel in our country construction and social service.This paper uses qualitative research methods, having an in-depth interview for8in-service professional social workers to analysis the current situation of the professional social workers’ occupation plight. Research finds that professional social workers’ occupation plight is mainly manifested in the following aspects:deficiency of professional capability, lack of sense of belonging, low level of support from family, the heavy and tedious work, administrative work content, long and non-stable working time, cope with the government’s inspection of the work, low salary level, no admission of client, shortage of specialty support, rupture of the capital chain, the limitation of funded departments of the government and the low degree of social recognition. The research also finds that the occupation plight of professional social workers shows four characteristics:universality, process, complexity and urgency. Universality generally refers that the occupation plight is all professional social workers experiencing in common; Process is defined as the change in the work stage, occupation plight of professional social workers are changing as well; complexity refers to the professional social workers face the dilemma of occupation which is a complex system; urgency is that the situation of professional social workers’ occupation plight needs to be solved urgently. Aiming at the problems found, the study put forward some countermeasures and suggestions from the macro, meso, micro three levels in the end. From the macro level, it mainly relates thae the government continues to promote the innovation of social management system, to speed up the legislative process of social work, to increase the investment of social work team construction and to perfect the government’s purchase of the social work service mechanism; The meso level relates that the social institutions should not only pay attention to the emotional connection with professional social workers, but also to improve the working levels of the supervisors, social working association should undertake the duties to fight for the interests of professional social workers, and the school should adjust be the set of the curriculum, paying attention to the quality of professional practice; The micro level is mainly composed that the professional social workers should not only strengthen the social workers’concept, improve the professional level of service, but also give full play to co-workers supporting role.
