Curriculum resources are an important support to promote curriculum reform ofbasic education and to ensure sustainable development of basic education. Withfurther reform of basic education curriculum in China, the importance of curriculumresources has attracted increasing concern. Kindergarten education is an essential partof basic education and the foundation phase of China’s schooling and lifelongeducation. Exploitation of ethnic culture in kindergarten curriculum resources isconducive to the ethnicalization of kindergarten curriculum, the development oftheory and practice of kindergarten curriculum reform, and the promotion of earlychildhood education in minority nationality.Western Hunan of China or Xiangxi region has wide range and profound ethniccultural resources, providing rich and valuable resources for kindergarten curriculumexploitation. This study selected six kindergartens from four counties in Xiangxi asresearch objects with stratified sampling method, integrated such methods asinterview, observation and textual analysis in data collection,and described the statusquo of kindergarten curriculum resource exploitation in this region. Based on thedescription, it also summarized the characteristics of exploiting ethnic culturalresources in curriculum resource development, analyzed the dilemma faced andproposed appropriate strategies and recommendations.The framework of this study is as follows:Part I: issues presented. Based on the background of the issue presented and aliterature review to the existing domestic research, it presents the significance as wellas research objects and methods of this study.Part II: it describes the situation in details from dimensions respectively, namely,the target, subject, content and the approach of the exploitation of ethnic culturalresources in this region.Part III: On the basis of the status quo, it summarizes the basic characteristics ofkindergarten curriculum resources in Xiangxi kindergartens, namely: necessity ofethnic cultural curriculum resources, selection of valuable curriculum resources, andadaption of curriculum resources to preschool children. Then plights are analyzed from three aspects: kindergarten itself, home cooperation and social elements.Part IV: Corresponding strategies and recommendations are proposed to combatthe plights Xiangxi kindergartens from the conceptual level, practice level and systemlevel.
