This paper discusses the difference between popular Chinese textbooks in Mainland and Taiwan. ForMainland, the chosen example is regular senior school standard experimental textbook Chinese Required,published by People’s Education Press and chief edited by Yuan, Xingpei. For Taiwan, the example takenis regular high school textbook Chinese Language, published by Han Lin Publishing Co., Ltd. and advisedby Li, Ruiteng, Chen, Xinghui, Zheng, Mingli. Overall speaking, this paper centers on the comparativestudy of two editions of Chinese textbooks and analysis of advantages and drawbacks of each edition basedon the programmatic documents of Mainland and Taiwan, so that the suggestions can be given to improvethe PEP edition.This article is made of six parts. The introduction part illustrates the motivation, range and target,current situation, step and methods, procedures and innovations of this study. Chapter1is to analyze thecurriculums for senior high school of Mainland and Taiwan. First, the study outcomes are discussed from amacroscopic view. Then the comparative study is applied from a microscopic view. Chapter2and3aremajor discussion of the differences of two editions in structure and content. Chapter4is to give commentson each edition based on the analysis in chapter1to3and points of the advantages and drawbacks of eachedition. Further, suggestions are given to improve the PEP edition.
