Special-post teachers, as a new force for the development of rural education, has made an indeliblecontribution which are worthy of our praise and commendation. Their professional development not onlyrelates to their own growth, but also relates to the future of rural education, but actually, their road ofprofessional development isn’t that flat, thus demands the whole society’s attention and thinking. In recentyears, more and more studies about this pact begin to emerge, they use the questionnaire method to do theresearch, and have made many valuable theories and experience. However, research of special-postteachers’ life and work from the microscopic point of view isn’t too many. This study using methods ofnarrative inquiry tries to put forward some recommendations to promote this situation by presenting somestories and exploring the related reasons.This thesis chooses three typical special-post teachers as interviewees, they are a special-post teacherwho is expected to leave, working at a state-level poverty-stricken county,L county,in Henan province,and two special-post teachers working at a general level of development of the county,Y county. One ofthe two teachers has finished his service and continues to stay for two years, the other has finished hisservice at September2013. Through field visits, the author has given a comprehensive interviews andobservations about the professional development of special-post teachers, and analyses the developmentstatus of three special-post teachers from the pacts of living, teaching, and development: a strong sense ofself-development, able to use internet resources to promote professional development, care for students,responsible, a not-high salary, lack of concern in life, dissonance in teachers culture, a heavy workload,lack of guidance in teaching, etc. According to the status analysis, this thesis think that, to promote special-post teachers’ professionaldevelopment, firstly, governments at all levels should pay attention to the teachers’ professionaldevelopment and provide relevant guarantee, raise the wages, and increase the effectiveness of training,which is an important way to protect professional development of the special-post teachers. Secondly,schools should optimize the internal environment in school to boost professional development of theseteachers. Schools should create and improve special-post teachers’ working and living conditions, changeideological concept to special-post teachers, increasing the humane care for them. Other measures are, forexample, putting more emphasis on professional development, establishing apprenticeship learningcommunity. At last, special-post teachers should pay attention to self-development, establishself-development awareness, do deep reflection consciously, make full use of internet resources to promoteself-development, study consciously and actively, strive for and cherish opportunities to participate intraining.
