With the implementation and promotion of new curriculum reform throughout the country, there are four versions of new general high school curriculum standard textbooks for the compulsory teaching geography appearing in our life successively. Among which, the one published by Hunan Education Press (Referred to as Xiang education version) has been used in some cities and surrounding areas of Henan Province. One of the important characteristic of this textbook is adding a section named "ACTIVITY" in it. In the process of learning of it,"activity" teaching, which is seen as one of the effective Ways for the New Curriculum, has been listed on the agenda. However, this teaching is still facing many difficulties and obstruction, then how to solve these problems about the "ACTIVITY" itself and its applying is becoming the center theme of this research areas.Therefore, this paper mainly taking documentation, statistical analysis, questionnaire, interviews and other methods, treats the content of "ACTIVITY" section as the research object, trying to discuss its roles, functions and purposes in teaching. On this basis, this paper learns the cardinal problems of the "ACTIVITY" in the teaching practice through a wide range of investigation and analysis. Therefore, some suggestions will be proposed to guarantee the "activity" teaching effectively.This paper is consisted of five chapters, containing two themes. In the beginning, the paper disserts the background of this research, then points out the associated research status at home abroad currently by organizing a large number of references related the "ACTIVITY" and "activity teaching". This is the basis to determine the main research directions and the main research methods of this paper, thus demonstrating the purpose and significance of this research. That is meaning, the majority of geography teachers in frontline should attach importance to it, for many experts and scholars have done a lot of research in this area. The second part is the content of the positioning research of the "ACTIVITY" in teaching, which is the first theme of this paper. After defining the relevant concepts referred to the "ACTIVITY", describing its origin, its existence of inevitability and necessary and its position in textbooks, this paper highlights the positioning of the section of "ACTIVITY" in Teaching, aiming at attracting the attention of geography teachers. The third part is the practical research on its teaching and learning, which is another theme. Huaibin County in Henan Province is selected as the research area, where two high schools had been investigated to find the geography teachers how to use the section of "ACTIVITY" of Xiang education version in Teaching through questionnaire and interview. Thus, common problems existing in activity teaching are summed up. To respond to these problems, the forth part will make recommendations to ensure the effective implementation of the section of "ACTIVITY ", expecting providing some references for geography teachers, students, educational administrative departments and editors. Chapter V is conclusion of this paper, including the problems which are still existing in this paper. Nevertheless, the paper expresses the hope that the effective implementation of the section of "ACTIVITY "at the end.
