Due to insufficient practical experience, nowadays many college graduates are notcompetent when facing the challenges of becoming senior engineers. The most directreason could be the lack of various resources in their universities: on one hand,research funds, facilities and institutes are limited, which poses a negative impact ontraining qualified engineers; on the other hand, some teachers are short of practicalexperience as well as the consciousness of engineering, which makes them lessqualified to serve as senior engineers in a real product line team. Therefore, thecooperation of enterprises and universities is in desperate need cover the shortage ofuniversity education and corporately produce high quality graduates. Some researchhave been conducted on this topic, and solutions have been put forward to deal withthe problem of low enthusiasm of enterprises and limited opportunities of cooperationparticipation, however, the effect of implementation is still not going well. This papermainly focuses on the unique role of the enterprise itself and reveals a representativeproblems existing in the joint education the obscure role definition of enterpriseoften leads to inadequate job done to fulfill this role, let alone enjoying the benefitsbrought by the cooperation. Based on this finding, the author clearly points out thatthe role of the enterprise as well as its status, function, attitude, emotion and standardof behavior in cooperation section should be clear and definite in order to shape areasonable role which greatly helps cultivate enterprise approved engineers.This paper firstly defines the concepts of engineer cultivation, university-enterprisecooperation and enterprise role, and then keeps a close eye on a special enterprise rolewhich fully cooperates with local universities in order to transform collegeundergraduates to application-oriented engineers. On this basis, with the purpose ofjoint education for engineer training, the author analyses the importance for necessityof talent training and enterprises’ profit growth in terms of joint education andmutually beneficial cooperation. This again proves the necessity ofuniversity-enterprise cooperation. Secondly, based on the results of interviews fromenterprises, universities and students, the author describes the current enterprise rolein joint education and indicates its potential problems. The author then puts forward adesirable enterprise role in joint education on the basis of results of questionnaires and interviews. More specifically, the analysis of academic papers and magazines as wellas practical cases from the Excellent Engineer Class in Beijing University ofTechnology generates some useful principles for establishing an effective enterpriserole in joint education. Furthermore, with the guidance of role theory and jointeducation theory, the author proposes effective approaches for enterprise to performin-depth cooperation in joint education. In the end, the author gives out somemeasures to guarantee highly reliable role-playing conducted by enterprises fromthree perspectives such as the government, universities and enterprises, then offerssuggestions for effectively performing joint education.In this paper, author conducts study, analysis, reasoning and assumption onenterprises’ role in university-enterprise cooperation with the help of documentresearch method, reasoning method, questionnaire method and interviews. Guided byrole theory, the author provides advice for building effective enterprise role. Besides,the research is supported by joint education theory in order to guarantee the rationalityof these opinions. Eventually an effective enterprise role is built to benefit theengineering education in practical situation. Correspondingly, adaptive approaches forenterprise role-playing and supporting measure are also put forward to support thisrole. All these achievements also theoretically offers new perspective touniversity-enterprise cooperation.
