Both the content and form of the high school ideological and political teaching materials have changed and updated a lot since the implementation of the new curriculum reform. In the aspect of structure, the teaching material is composed by the main body and the auxiliary content. The main body is the core of the textbook, and the supplementary literature isn’t the main content for teaching, but it could be the descriptive text of annotation,extending, expansibility, and visualization for the main body. It includes the five components of Related links, Noun analysis, Expert comments, Cultural figures and Quotes. The style of the auxiliary content is lively, full of text and graphics, and the materials used have a sense of contemporaneity.The status and role of the auxiliary content in Senior Politics textbook lie in the service for the main body. It states the points of the main body, deepens textbook connotation, expands the body extension. The application of the auxiliary content promotes the development of teaching. It can make the class teaching more interesting, improve the teaching efficiency, and broaden the scope of the teacher’s research. Learning the auxiliary content can help the growth of the students, broaden the range of students’ knowledge, improve the students’ abilities and improve the students’ emotional attitudes and values.The condition how the teachers and students concern, understand and use the auxiliary content is gotten through the questionnaires. It is concluded that low applications, unreasonable methods, unconspicuous effects existed in supplementary literature teaching. The reason is that the teachers has the biased cognition and poor ability in using auxiliary content, which leads the bad results in teaching lessons.The following points should be applied against the problem and its reason. First of all, the principle of complement use, flexibility and innovation should be mastered in the application of the auxiliary content. Second, the teachers need to change their ideas, which involves establishing new conception on choosing teaching materials, new student conceptions, and new teaching ideas; need to improve the ability of controlling the auxiliary content, including materials selection capabilities, content integration capabilities and rich teaching methods. Thirdly, teachers should flexibly master the reasonable teaching time and take more attention on prepare lessons collectively in teaching and researching group. At last, combining with the current educational practice case, examples should be given to analyze the Related links, Noun analysis, Expert comments, Cultural figures and Quotes, which is going to help the teachers improve their teaching.
