Books are important carriers of Chinese knowledge, an important part of Chinese course. Learning basic Chinese knowledge in primary schools lays a firm foundation for future education and children’s development. Therefore, the writer selects exercises in Chinese textbooks edited by Beijing Normal University Press as sample to analyze how the knowledge system is arranged. By analyzing the exercises and deleting redundant ones, it is hoped to spot merits and demerits of the existing knowledge system, and to help improve the system.This thesis is divided into four chapters. Chapter one is introduction to the background, status, purpose, definition of key word, significance and method of the research. Chapter two certifies the analytical framework of the thesis, leading to the discussion hereafter. Chapter three calculates and analyses the knowledge system of textbooks edited by BNU Press. Analysis is given on the basis of the calculated result forementioned. Chapter four provides suggestions on how to improve the knowledge system of textbooks edited by BNU Press.
