Since the 1990 s, school-based curriculum has gradually become a hot research spot of the domestic educators. Its research categories include school-based curriculum development, implementation, evaluation, mechanism, concept and so on; research subjects include school concept, teachers’ role orientation, students’ role orientation, the environmental factors influencing students, etc.; research contents include mathematics, Chinese, English, experiment, painting, handwork, sports, music, dance, and other disciplines; research methods include theory researches mainly focusing on literature and case studies mainly focusing on survey and so on.This paper is based on one of the Chinese traditional folk musical instruments-bamboo flute for school-based curriculum development research. Flute is the epitome of Chinese traditional music culture and its rhythm has spread throughout the ancient and modern history of China. In ancient times, it was always there during Chinese hunting, war, entertainment, sacrifice, accompanying the traditional opera, folk songs and folk dance; in modern times it’s the sound of laboring people to celebrate construction of the motherland; in contemporary time,it seeks a peaceful atmosphere for ourselves in such a noisy society. It’s the first time to develop school-based curriculum with flute, an old Chinese traditional wind instrument,as the carrier in China. Bamboo flute used to be taught by the traditional folk artists or the teachers of professional music colleges. However this study aims to analyze how to transform the informal or elite teaching patterns to a popular one in primary and secondary schools gradually, and inherit traditional music culture with schools as habitats.This paper consists of four parts. The first part is to sort out the present situation of the domestic and foreign scholars’ researches on the theory and practice of school-based curriculum development and through the research of the school-based curriculum, grope for the theory support to be able to introduce bamboo flute as a characteristic theme into school’s music education. The second part is that through the observation of the current situation of music education and teaching as well as the analysis on domestic research for the development of school-based curriculum in music,the researchers have found that the school-based curriculum in music has gradually entered the researchers’ vision, especially with the elements of Chinese traditional folk music, school-based curriculum in music highlights the combination of traditional and modern times’ characteristics, the inclusiveness of the combination between folk and disciplines as well as the universality of the content, etc. The third part is about the Principle of school-based curriculum development in bamboo flute. This chapter attempts to set up a proper formula with bamboo flute as the carrier of school-based curriculum development, according to the theory of school-based curriculum development and school-based curriculum development in music, combining the school-based curriculum idea and the process of making the bamboo flute a subject, thereby spreading Chinese bamboo culture more effectively.The fourth part is the design scheme of school-based curriculum in bamboo flute, with school-based curriculum content in bamboo flute and curriculum design as the research content, developing the model of school-based curriculum in bamboo flute.The four parts in this paper develop in a step by step way, analyzing and exploring,in turn, school-based curriculum development theory, the theory of school-based curriculum in music, and the scheme design of school-based curriculum development in bamboo flute.It combines the formed concepts of school-based curriculum with the actual situations of parts of our country and the elements of traditional bamboo flute culture in these areas, considering school-based curriculum development in Chinese traditional instrumental music which have already been done in some schools as samples, practice and explore the school-based curriculum development in bamboo flute.
