As a tool of students’ learning and teachers’ teaching, textbooks play an important role in teaching. Teachers’ use of textbook affects both the function of textbooks and the actual effect of classroom teaching. At present, the study on teachers’ textbooks use is limited. The case study can provide other researchers with an example of how to study teachers’ textbook use.Use the framework of orientations of faithful, adjustment and mutual creation in curriculum implementation, and analyze teacher’s views on textbooks, the use of textbooks in the design and implementation sphere, we found that teacher X following these features in the use of textbooks.First, teacher X’s views on textbooks is somewhat between closed and open view. Teacher X has a critical view in the evaluation of textbooks. For example, she point out that although the content is difficult, it is close to the students’ life. Although the textbooks have some defects, teacher X still in trust of its contents, and is willing to carry on the teaching according to the content of the textbooks.Second, teacher X’s teaching design and teaching implementation is based on the textbooks. Teacher X refers to textbooks, teaching reference, and workbook in the teaching design but ignores the curriculum standards. Teacher X mainly refers to the textbooks in the teaching process. Based on the actual needs of teaching and students’ ability, teacher X supplements the content of the textbooks and adjusts the order of its content. Although teacher X based on the textbooks to organize the teaching, she also flexibly adjusts the content.Third, curriculum includes teachers, students, teaching materials and the environment, the influential factors of teacher X’s textbook use also includes these four aspects. Teacher X’s trust in the textbooks and her teaching experience promote the creation of textbooks. Teacher X expands the content based on the students’ knowledge base, interest and life experience. Textbooks’ adaptability for students learning and the close relationship with students’ life promotes teacher X’s use. Other factors, such as school’s emphasis on research work, the opportunities of training and the cooperation atmosphere between teachers all promote teacher X’s use of textbooks.Through analysis, we found that X teacher’s textbooks use is somewhat among adherence, adjustment and creation. Adherence is the main characteristics. Teacher X need to create textbook content based on the understanding of the curriculum standard, and at the same time lay emphasis on students characteristics.
