Reading, the basic way of acquiring knowledge and information, is not only an important means for people to obtain social practical activities but an approach to inherit national cultures. Then cultivating an interest in reading for junior students can play a decisive role for their learning and development.At present, compared with many developed countries, there is a low reading quantity in China. It is not optimistic especially to junior students’ reading. And this is the very reason that we should improve both the quantity and quality of reading. In China, children from the cities have better reading circumstance, while those from urban-rural areas have not. Due to the lack of understanding, parents ’ awareness of reading in these families is not high.In a state of laissez faire, children have missed a golden time for the cultivation of their interest in reading.Based on the important role for families to cultivate children’ s reading interest,this paper regards the first year wtudents’ parents as a starting point. After more than two years of investigating and interviewing teachers and children, and observing children’ s reading, it has had a great collection of data. On the data, it aims to reach a deep understanding on the cultivation of the first-year students’ reading interest among the urban-rural areas. Then it goes further to set up strategies.This paper first makes it clear on the current situation about children’ sreading and reading methods parents have built. Then it has an analysis on the necessity to foster interest in children ’ s reading. It goes forward to investigate students from the surrounding primary schools among the urban-rural areas like Baiyun District of Guangzhou City, on which it sets a survey and interview among students, teachers and parents. This survey aims to know more about the reading situation of rirst-year students in this district and further inquiry the reading education among families, such as parents’ reading concepts for their children, the strategies and methods of cultivating children’s reading interest. The paper then further explores reasons for children’s reading situation,and puts forward three factors influencing the reading interest and reading guidance principles.On the basis of investigation and analysis, it puts forward the measures of cultivating the interest of reading behavior. Feasible suggestions and strategies have been proposed based on four aspects: the selection of reading materials, creation of the reading atmosphere, the formation of the reading emotion and the readable reading.Finally, based on the specific cases, it makes a practical analysis of effective training forchildren’s interest in reading in the combination of urban and rural area families.Strategies like questionnaire survey, case study and literature research are used in this paper. Onthe survey about the cultivation of children’s reading interest, this paper attempts to explore the effective methods of reading for families from urban-rural areas.
