China has been in the new stage of the rapid development of urbanization, with a widening gap among the economy, culture and education under the urban-rural dualism. Based on the stand of education equity, advancing rural educational quality comprehensively, promoting the process of educational equalization and breaking barracks of rural and urban areas, rural education issue has been gradually becoming the focus research issue of China’s educational theory field in recent three years. The rural educational research in recent decade, among the recent three decades’ research, especially has generated great effects in both state’s educational policy designing and changing rural education condition. Therefore, in order to enhance the basic cognition about existed researches and entirely improve rural educational quality and efficiency, this paper carries out a static analysis on 48 researchers of rural education who are the authors of periodical literatures cited in CSSCI, to present the status of the research contents and research groups of rural education, so that to find problems, then to explore the development direction of rural education, and finally to propose appropriate suggestions for the optimization of rural education.This paper consists of four parts.The first part is the analysis on the basic condition of China’s research groups of rural education. On the whole, rural education research institutions are widely distributed in China, the same goes for the published journals of research achievements. But, there still exists the central tendency and preference in the distribution. However, the cooperation among the researchers of rural education is at a low degree, and the researchers prefer to work individually. Besides, the research achievements are closely related with the time background, they are practice oriented and policy oriented.The second part is the analysis of research contents and the relationship between the researchers of rural education and their research contents, based on the dimensions which have caught those researchers’ attention, including the specific problems of the rural education, the basic theories of rural education and the perspectives of rural education research. On the whole, the concerned contents of researchers of rural education are widely distributed, with diverse perspectives. However, the concerns of those researchers are still related with their academic background and personal objectives, thus a certain preference exists in the research results.The third part is the dilemma of China’s rural education research, on the basis of the analysis of text contents. As a whole, the researcher of rural education should not only pay attention to the theoretical research, but also focus on the reality. They should insist on the professionalization and the objectivity of research, as well as consider the realistic requirements of rural areas, so as to offer rural education theories which are scientific, forward-looking and practical. As to the value and function selection of rural education, researchers shall abandon the antithetical ideas of either this or that, whereas, they should meet the diverse requirements of rural development and the rural masses through the pluralistic locating, and give consideration to both the social and economic development of rural areas and the all-round development of human beings and human’s freedom.The fourth part is the conclusion and suggestion of this paper. The author believes that on the development of rural education research, the rural education should return to the rural areas, combining the thought differentiating research with the empirical research, and pay equal attention to the basic theories and practical issues, so as to promote the foundation of academic community of research on rural education.
