As a classic of children’s literature, fairy tales have been reading by many people during their childhood, which have a profound impact on them. Based on the theory of Chinese fairy tale teaching which is applied in elementary school and cases in Hohhot SuHu Experiment Elementary School, the author does researches on the current status quo and analyzes existing problems, expounds mainly on the value of children’s psychological development and stresses highly on children’s growth by Chinese fairy tale teaching. It appeals people for concerning fairy tale teaching and tries to make fairy tales become children’s spiritual pole.This paper is divided into four parts:the first part is an introduction to the function and charm of Chinese fairy tales.In the second part, the author by using the method of survey, investigates the current problems existed in fairy tale teaching as following:teaching methods tend to be simple, old fashioned and deficient; emphasizing just on knowledge instillation and moral preaching; indulging in rational understanding while ignoring the formation of imagination; regarding it just as a tool while short of humanism.In the third part, the author illustrates the concept of fairy tales teaching should follow. The author suggests that learners should sufficiently read fairy tales by using multi-form method to appreciate, while teachers should focus on the reading expectation and respect for the individual responses. In this case, fairy tale teaching should also correspond to the psychological development stages of the children.The fourth part is the key section of the thesis. It focuses on the children’s mental development by fairy tale teaching. In this section, the author proposes that teachers should follow the concept of fairy tale teaching and exploit creative fairy tale teaching methods with psychological value during specific teaching process, which are to guide children to solve psychological problems; to build healthy and positive psychological characters, to cultivate the mind, to shape the benevolent and reputable personality; to enlighten children’s intelligence. If teachers improve the methods of fairy tales teaching, fairy tales will play its proper value, truly nourish children’s spiritual world. I do hope the thesis would be helpful for Chinese fairy tales teaching in primary school.
