Foreign poetry, which is an exotic gem, enjoys a long history and high literature value. Poetry teaching is an important component of Chinese teaching in middle schools; however, foreign poetry teaching has been in a vulnerable position all the time, facing such problems as low proportion of foreign poems selected into middle school textbooks, teachers’ negligence in its teaching and weak attainment in this field, students’ lack of interest, etc. The New Curriculum Standard clearly claims that poetry teaching shall be advocated and returned; in the meantime, foreign poems teaching reform has aroused attention from all parties in educational circle.This paper is divided into six parts, aiming to provide some ideas for foreign poetry teaching design in middle schools. The paper is to begin with discussion in the respective aspects: curriculum requirements and course material compiling for middle school foreign poetry teaching; stylistic features and value in foreign poems; the design of goal, procedure and methodology in foreign poetry education. Next, based on Chinese curriculum theory and foreign poetry theory, the paper attempts to carry out in-depth interpretation of the text. Finally, combined with practical examples in foreign poetry education, the paper is to research and probe all the respects related with its teaching design.
