As one of the provinces which focus on education in China, Hubei has always been on the way of being a powerful province in aspects of education and never stops it. On December29,2010, The Long-term Plan for Education Reform and Development of Hubei Province(2011-2020), which was enacted in Hubei province education conference, clearly put forward that Hubei should be a great province of education by the year2015. Compared with the education level in cities, however, it is much lower than that of the rural schools in the remote mountains areas. Therefore, it is the high time that the education level in countryside should be improved. The high school, which is the vital period of the nine-year free compulsory education, directly affects the development of the overall level of education in our province. Physical education, as an important part, plays an vital role and shines its unique lights. So it is also necessary to develop the physical education in rural middle schools.In this paper, it is based on the study of Enshi, the southern mountains of western Hubei. Through the ways of observation, experiment, questionnaire survey and data’s quantity and other research methods, this paper analyzes and expounds the recent physical education situation in remote mountainous rural junior high school in the following six aspects:the management of physical education tercher. the current situation of physical education, extracurricular sports activities, venues and equipments, the fund for school sports teaching activity, the management of school physical education, in order to find the restrict reasons for the development of junior school physical education in remote mountainous areas in Enshi. Then we can put forward the constructive suggestion and take targeted measures.Through the investigation and study, we can draw the following conclusions:(1) A serious shortage of sports teachers and unreasonable post settings. A PE teacher tends to hold several posts, and even must master many skills while specializing in one. To a large extent, therefore, it can not improve the rationality of sports teachers’ configuration, which directly affects the development of the sports teaching.(2) The situation of physical education teaching tends to be too simple, traditional, and security. PE teachers’ professional knowledge level is not high. Their low degree structure and unreasonable age structure made it difficult for them to accept the new teaching concept and mode. What’s more, they lack of innovative thinking.(3) The extracurricular sports activities are too limited. The so-called an-hour exercise every day, except two fuck (morning exercises and the lesson hold) sports activities, can not get effective guarantee. And sports meetings always have the quantity not quality.(4) The shortage of equipments has been improved, but not fundamentally solves the needs of the students. Most track and field are used as a morning run. The basketball courts are crowded only between the classes. The sports equipment room is only temporary built to store some temporary equipments which are for the leaders’ check in special period.(5) The investment of school physical education teaching is too initiative and passivity.(6) The management of sports teaching and school activities are too conservative. It relies too much on traditional teaching and management mode, which appears to be safe but a greater risk. While preventing safety accidents, we should change the old and traditional teaching management mode, update the idea, and innovate the new.
