Pay attention to education connotation development, encouraging schools to do characteristic "is a" national long-term education reform and development plan (2010-2020)"is proposed to take a new period ofrunning school requirements.Thus, we can see that it has been the times’demand that high schools should have their own characteristics. Nevertheless, most high schools in China are still focusing on having high enrollment rate to the universities and at all the service of the College Entrance Examination. Under the circumstances, there comes the phenomenon that fewer high schools possess their distinctive characteristics. This thesis will introduce the background and current situation of the research on the characteristics of running high schools. There will be a case study on Zhongshan No.2High School, Guangdong Province, whose characteristics are "Stimulating students’ potential and pave their way to success". Methods such as documentary research, case study and summary of experience will be adopted and a case study of the very school will be conducted aiming at revealing the current status and problems of building characteristics of high schools so as to provide an example for both the theoretical and practical research on building high schools’ characteristics.In this passage, firstly the definition will be made, then there will be a discussion on the school-running characteristics and the main content of high school characteristic construction, giving a theoretical base for the following analysis; next, based on the actual survey work, the current situation and problems of the present high school characteristics construction will be analyzed; finally, in order to improve the current situation and solve the problem of the construction, the passage is going to have a discussion on the characteristics construction of high schools and thus provide the approaches to high schools’ characteristics construction.The thesis is divided into five chapters. The first chapter is about the background and significance of the topic, the research situation, and the basic approach and method of the research. In the second chapter, the concept definition will be made, and there will be an introduction of the concept and features of school-running characteristics. The third chapter will have a theoretical analysis on the forming process, implication and main content of school-running characteristics. In the fourth chapter, there will be a case study on the Zhongshan No.2High School, analyzing the construction practice and problems during its process of building up the high school running characteristics. The last chapter is the reflection on the high school-running characteristics.
