In the new curriculum standards environment, the primary and secondary schools arebuilding high-efficient classroom and carrying out the health education in accordancewith the natural law of the development of students. However, the homework, which is animportant part of the education system, lacks sufficient attention. Homework is acontinuation and development of classroom teaching activities. It has many importantfunctions, such as helping students to consolidate knowledge, helping teachers to obtainthe learning status of students and to judge their learning quality. Many teachers stillbelieve that if students want to learn mathematics well, they should do more exercises.They pursue the quantitative change causes the qualitative change and add the students’burden.Looking for an optimal amount is complicated system engineering. The optimalamount of mathematical homework depends on the difficulty of the knowledge, thestudents’ individual differences, the type of questions, etc. In this paper, firstly, we learnthe present situation of the current mathematics homework in middle school through bythe questionnaire survey and the visiting. Then, we conduct a one semester’s experimentin EZhou City Junior High School. We design work volume for the experimental class is"the homework amount for each new knowledge is about10to15questions", and tworeference classes are below, or above the amount. The experimental results show that: ifthe teachers’ teaching experience, the students’ individual differences and other factors areignored, the teacher can achieve their goals of consolidating new knowledge andimproving students’ academic performance by choosing exercises for new knowledgecarefully and controlling the amount of practice. In addition, according the actualsituation of the current middle school mathematics teaching, teachers can optimize themiddle school mathematics homework by improving the practice effectiveness, reducingduplication of practice and strengthening the practice in novative.On the basis of investigation and experiment, this study proposed the mathematicsteachers in the middle school should set up the new teaching idea, carry out the homework based on student-centered and make the practice to achieve the optimal effect.
