Homeschooling or homeschool is that the school-aged children accept Basic Educationat home rather than at the school. Compared with the school education, it has uniqueadvantages, for example, it can always take children development centered, to be trulyindividualized; it promotes exchanges between family members and strengthens theparent-child relationship through frequent parent-child interaction; Love of education isconducive to the formation of children good character and so on. In view of this, when schooleducation has been criticized, homeschooling becomes the personalized choice of manyparents. In Denmark, Canada, Australia and Britain, France, Germany and other Westerncountries. This education has become a parallel form of education with schooling, and theappearance of homeschooling is not to completely deny schooling, just for the additions andamendments of schooling inherent defects.There is no doubt that the United States is the most mature country of Homeschoolingdevelopment. Along with the criticism of school education and the development of schoolchoice movement, homeschooling in the modern sense rose in the1950s.After half a centuryof development, it has gradually matured by bud. Up to1993,homeschooling education in thenation’s50states had legalized and gradually become another form of education in public andprivate schools outside. The number of homeschooling students has a steady growth and hasincreased to about2.04million in2010,which takes up about3%of the number of childrenenrolled in the United States. At the same time, the education quality of homeschooling hasgradually been recognized by the general public. The supports gradually improve, which fromgovernment, public schools, organizations, teaching resources and other aspects. Stones fromother hills may serve to polish jade. The purpose of this study is that analyzing the status andprospects of China’s homeschooling development through studying the status ofimplementation, security system, advantages and disadvantages, future trends andachievements of United States homeschooling education. The conclusion is that drawinginspiration for China’s current education reform from the United States homeschoolingdevelopment. This study will research from the following sections. The introduction includes this studytopics reason, current research, study’s significance and value, the core concepts definition.The first two chapters analyze the United States homeschooling’s historical origins andtheoretical foundation, then introduce the development process of homeschooling in themodern sense and its causes. The chapter III details the development status of Americanhomeschooling from the homeschooling quantity and scale, the subject of education, teachingand quality assessment of education, and its support system. The chapter IV makes a briefanalysis for the homeschooling’s advantages, the existence of rationality and legitimacy, theproblems faced and future trends. The chapter V analyzes the status and prospects of China’shomeschooling, and draws inspiration from American homeschooling on the China’s currenteducation reform.
