Due to the imbalance of two structures in urban and rural areas in China, thenumber of migrant labour population is increasing year by year, which draws widely socialattention to the healthily mental and physical development of left-behind children in ruralareas.This paper researches on the present situation of left-behind children who takeextracurricular physical exercise in rural middle schools of Yingshang county through theliterature data method, questionnaire survey method, Comparative method, mathematicalstatistics method to make the analysis, whose result is as follows:(1)The population ofleft-behind children in rural middle schools of Yingshang County is large, accounting for55%ofthe total number of rural middle school students. The left-behind children mainly include thefollowing two types: those cared for by their mothers, and the ones looked after by their grandparents,making up about44.8%and39%respectively.(2)The characteristics of Extracurricular physicalexercise taken by left-behind children in rural middle schools of Yingshang County include:spending little time in taking exercise, taking exercise infrequently per week, participating in asingle item, and participating in the movement alone.(3)The consciousness ofextracurricular physical exercise shows as s follows: the cognitive level of extracurricularphysical exercise is relatively low, the positive attitude of physical exercise is not high,and exercise motivation is not strong. The situation of social support rate of extracurricularphysical exercise: supported by the headmaster,62.34%in grade eight, the highestlevel, and only22.08%in grade nine; supported by the guardian, only11.92%in grade nine,while grade seven support rate is the highest, reaching55.84%, but the overall socialsupport is not high, the average support rate of the headmaster being40.52%, and the otherone32.33%.(4)the characteristics of extracurricular physical exercise taken by differenttypes of left-behind children are different. In the aspect of movement time andmovement frequency, the left-behind children cared for by their mothers are superior toother types of left-behind children, such as those looked after by their relatives. The left-behindchildren cared for by their fathers or mothers tend to joining others to enjoy extracurricularsports, accounting for55.56%and66.13%respectively among the same kind of left-behindchildren. However, the left-behind children cared for by their grandparents are the least likelyto take part in extracurricular sports, making up less than14%. After testing sports consciousness of different types of left-behind children, an average is worked out (P>0.05),which shows there is no obvious difference, that is, the sports consciousness of them is weak.However, comparing the specific number, we can find the fact that the left-behind childrencared for by their fathers and mothers are slightly superior to other types of left-behindchildren.(5) Through hierarchical clustering analysis method,12indicators influencingextracurricular exercise taken by the left-behind children in rural middle schools of Yingshangcounty are clustered, which consists of supporting factor, policy factor, cognitive factor, andeconomic factor, among which supporting factor has the greatest influence, while economicfactor isn’t the main setback for the left-behind children to take extracurricular exercise.Finally, in order to improve the extracurricular exercise conditions for the left-behind children in ruralschools, good suggestions are supposed to be put forward by our schools, families, communities andrelevant government department, which can be used to improve the theory of extracurricular exercise ofthe left-behind children in rural schools, enhance its quality, promote the development of the body andmind of left-behind children in rural schools and provide valuable theory and method for reference.
