With the reform of the basic education curriculum in our country, the construction of language textbooks has become increasingly important. Language curriculum standards ask to improve students’ diverse literary quality. The respect and understanding of multiculturalism become more and more important. Western literature and Chinese traditional culture have different human spirits, and people come to realize the importance of foreign literary works. Textbooks are connecting link between teachers and students, and the literary works determine the overall quality of textbooks. Outstanding foreign literature can broaden students’ cultural horizons, and cultivate their humanities, which help students develop a healthy personality.PEP textbooks are widely used, so this paper studies foreign literary works from junior PEP language textbooks. The paper consists of four parts. The first part is through comparative analysis of selected texts from the old and new textbooks, summarizing the progress of selecting texts for PEP language textbooks. The second part is the comparison between Jiangsu education press and PEP, and sums up the advantages of the two kinds of textbooks in terms of selected articles. The third part is a combination of analysis and research of the first two parts, pointing out the problems in selecting file system, selecting text content and layout in PEP. The fourth part puts forward suggestions in the selecting foreign literature works and layout, and combined with "curriculum standards" requirements. They are works diversification, highlighting cultural differences, showing the aesthetic value, and establishing an independent layout system.
