Time-sequencing is a basic characteristic of history. The sense of time-sequencing means that students can gradually develop the ability of both learning history and understanding its development course in time sequence when they study history, and this sense is one of essential abilities for middle school students to learn history.Firstly, this paper sorts out some current problems on developing students’ sense of time-sequencing in middle school. Among the problems stand out two problems, which are the time-sequencing existing in both the teaching and learning of history in middle school. Secondly, the paper elaborates the importance of cultivation of the time-sequencing in the three aspects such as time serials characteristics of history itself, distinctive characteristics of the sense of time-sequencing in the curriculum design of history and students’ cognitive regularity and so on. Thirdly, it illustrates three objectives of how to cultivate students’ sense of historical time series in the middle school, including letting students know the significance of the time-sequencing to historical evolution; getting students to establish the development course of history through time sequence; enabling students to find out causal relationships of history through time sequence. Lastly, the author discusses three methods of developing student’s sense of historical time-sequencing,like the compilation and use of chronology, the clear divisions of historical periods, the memory methods of historical chronology and so on. The memory methods of historical time, such as the application of time line and the smart use of historical events, are more effective methods the author has come up with to improve the students’ sense of time-sequencing in the history teaching of middle school.
