Geography experiment teaching is an important part for Geography education and it integrates the theory and practical. It plays a great role in students development and teachers teaching. This paper aims at analyzing the current situation, existed effectiveness and problems of Geography experiment teaching in LanZhou middle schools, thus finding the solutions and improving the Geography experiment teaching.This article analyzed the domestic and foreign related research of geography experimental teaching, combining with the present situation questionnaire existing in geographic experiment teaching, according to the need of the Lanzhou city geography experimental teaching situation to prepare questionnaire and interview outline. 39 teachers who are from 8 schools with geographical laboratory were investigated in Lanzhou city and 15 of them was interviewed.The findings are following: 1.Teachers have high recognition but poor understanding towards Geography experiment teaching. The results show that different types of school teachers have difference understanding of geography experimental teaching, high school teachers is completely higher than middle school teachers; 2. The situation that teachers develop the experiment teaching is not very well. The existed teaching activities cannot reach the standard as Curriculum requires and this is a common phenomenon in many schools.3.Teachers don’t think highly of the experiments in Geography textbooks for the reason that the experiments are not operable and teachers have difficulties in presentation. 4. The lack of experiment teaching resources. Most of the existed experimental apparatus and materials are geography models. Meanwhile, the poor usage of models, idle devices, lack of time and discrepancy of teaching content causing the reason that influence the usage of existed models and materials. 5. The objective and subjective factors that influence the Geography experiment teaching. The former comes from the lack of experiment teaching resources and teaching schedule as well as the leading effect of College Entrance Examination while the latter comes from the lack of ability to design experiment of teachers. 6. Teachers think that the lack of founding and materials, the development of concept.Based on the above research conclusion, the author thinks that to promote the development of geography experimental teaching, from three aspects: teachers, schools, education departments work together, and put forward some concrete Suggestions for improvement.
