The Research On Chinese Extracurricular Reading In Rural Senior High School

Extracurricular reading is the important part of Chinese teaching, which is benefit for students in acquiring knowledge, improving quality, training the sense of language, and molding their temperament. However, there are many problems in rural senior high schools, which are often limited by the economic and geographic conditions, whenever before or after of course reforms. On one hand, the students in rural senior high schools can recite the textbook skillfully, on the other hand, they are not interested in extracurricular reading. As the result, reading quantity of the students is not enough, their reading range is limited, and only a few pupils have the plan of reading, or have much interest in reading.In this paper, the current situation of extracurricular reading in rural senior high school, in which author teaches, is introduced. According to the teaching experience of author, the comparison on reading situation between rural and city senior high school is surveyed, which is in order to research the reading interest, reading motivation, reading habit of students. The survey finds out that the extracurricular reading in rural school is fall behind to the city one.The factors influences the extracurricular reading in rural school, come from the society, family, school and teacher, while the impact of teachers is the most direct part. The method which teachers should adopt to change current reading situation of students is mentioned, such as improving their reading consciousness by changing perception and method of teachers, cultivating their reading habit by collecting books in many ways, arousing their interest and improving their reading ability by organizing varied reading competitions. The study in this paper will give some value to improve the extracurricular reading situation in rural senior high school.
