With the current implementation of basic education reform in our country, the issue of curriculum is showing up day by day. As the core component of new curriculum reform, curriculum resource is entering into research view in both theory and practice and becoming an important concept in curriculum studies. The new curriculum acknowledges that it would be difficult to realize the great goal of the new educational curriculum without efficient utilization of various curriculum resources. The use of curriculum resources is the integral part of curriculum implementation and need of achieving English language teaching. However, although abundant English curriculum resources exist, the current situation of the use of English curriculum resources is not satisfying, which exactly requires further exploration on existent problems and the countermeasures to each problem in the process of English curriculum application through the causes investigating.The paper aims to investigate the utilization of English curriculum resources in middle schools (taking Xi’an Tie Yi Bin He School as the subject) by means of observation, questionnaire and interview. In view of great importance of the English curriculum resources and urgent necessity of overcoming the present unsatisfying situation of their application, the author who is teaching junior English in Xi’an Tie Yi Bin He School has made a survey on the application of English curriculum resources of this school and furthermore has examined the problems existing in the use of English curriculum resources, aiming to provide feasible suggestions for solving these problems and guiding the English teaching practice.Through study, problems like low ability to recognize and select diverse English curriculum resources and improper use of English curriculum resources have been found in use of English curriculum resources because of time and energy limitations, inadequate extension of both existing and developed curriculum resources among teachers and traditional and narrow concept of curriculum resources. Some countermeasures therefore can be taken to solve these problems. First, improving the consciousness of curriculum resources and establishing a new concept of curriculum resources. Second, expanding using channels of curriculum resources. Third, enriching the range of English curriculum resources used by junior middle school teachers. Fourth, intensifying the studies both on theory and practice to provide enough theoretical and academic basis for using curriculum resources. Fifth, adopting a new assessment and evaluation in accordance with New English Curriculum to evaluate students’ ability. Sixth, making the principles of application of English curriculum resources clear in using English curriculum resources.
