The textbook “Kai Ming Mandarin” was written by Ye Shengtao and illustrated by Feng Zikai which was published in 1932. It reflected the development of textbook under the influence of party education and mandarin curriculum standard. The textbook has 8 copies for lower elementary school’s students and 4 copies for higher elementary school’s students. In totally, there have 480 texts and 384 illustrations. What are the textbook writing are detailed and the illustrations in this textbook are creative. Illustrations in “Kai Ming Mandarin” not only complement the content but also explain the education ideas from Feng Zikai. This article re-interprets “Kai Ming Mandarin” from its illustrations’ perspective which aims at providing lessons for the development of study in textbook and textbook compiling.In the illustrations of “Kai Ming Mandarin”, Feng Zikai draws illustrations from children’s eyes, which makes him find children have their own existence from mankind and highlight the predominant roles of children. This article reveals the education ideas contained in the textbook which values children’s subjectivity according to observing and explaining the corporeity phenomenon from the textbook.At first, this article states the background of publication of “Kai Ming Mandarin” and the basic case of painter. At second, statistical analysis of the illustrations show that the textbooks for lower elementary school’s students have larger proportion of illustrations and they will reduce as the grade rises. Illustrations have special traits in covers, collections, exercises and layout. Then, it analyzes the performance of corporeity in space, the gesture and clothes. Finally, this article reveals the motility, autonomous and self-behaving of corporeity which including advanced education ideas—valuing children subjectivity. Educations ideas of illustrations focus on details of children, gain experience from life and society, hold the view of children’s right to freedom, which are helpful to educational practices.
