Chinese textbook is the most important carrier of Chinese Teaching, both important for the students and the teachers. So the construction of Chinese textbook should be paid more attention.Secondary Vocational Education Curriculum Reform National Planning Materials(language)(Hereinafter referred to as the new textbook) is written according to Secondary Vocational School Language Syllabus which was enacted in 2009. It was used by secondary vocational schools in the same year. The new textbook is published by Higher Education Press and is explicated by the National Secondary Vocational Education Textbook Committee. At the same time, Secondary Vocational Education National Planning Materials(language)(Hereinafter referred to as the old textbook) has been quitted by the Chinese Teaching, which was also published by Higher Education Press and explicated by the National Secondary Vocational Education Textbook Committee. These two kinds of textbooks highlight People-oriented and focus on the features of vocational education. And both of them aim to promote the students’ Chinese overall capabilities and qualities. This paper compares the modern literature in the two versions of textbooks. The comparison is made in the following aspects : compiling principles, selection and edition style, student system and practice system etc. It reflects the characteristics of the modern literature’s edition styles between the two kinds of textbooks as well as recommending some advice on the edition style of the modern literature. In the comparison of the compiling principles, we can see that the two kinds of textbooks are to teach the students according to their aptitude, which are divided into must learn lessons, required and optional courses. However the features of vocational education in the new textbook are more obvious and prominent. In the comparison of the edition style, we can see that the new textbook focus more on the students’ life and business. It takes students’ different Chinese basics and different majors into full consideration. So the new textbook does better in the students’ professional development so as to highlight the features of vocational education. In the comparison of selection, this paper carries through theme and genre, intensive reading and skimming, and the percentage of selected foreign works. The new textbook focuses more on guiding the students’ value by using the examples. The arrangement of intensive reading and skimming is flexible. And the percentage of selected foreign works is much bigger. In the comparison of student system and practice system, the new textbook focuses more on the plentiful content and various forms. And the practice system pays attention to the gradual process from simple to difficult. While the content of the appendix of the old textbook is more plentiful, which can provide the students with more reading materials. And the comprehensive exercises of the old textbook can provide students with more reading materials which include plenty of famous works. They are worth learning and maintaining for us.This paper recommends its own ideas in the last part through the compiling principles, the edition style, the selection content and the after-class exercise of the modern literature in the Chinese textbook. In a word, the key questions this paper needs to solve are: what are the advantages and disadvantages of the new textbook? How to close to the major according to the reality of the vocational school students, which include actual level and needs? How to serve the students’ major learning, which can focus on the features of vocational education in the secondary vocational Chinese teaching.
