With the reform of curricular furthering, the fundamental function and the function as a subject of ethical education become increasingly clear, and especially the requirement of ethical education in Chinese textbook has been emphasized particularly. There exists, put in a serious way, however, numerous deficiencies and problems in the content of ethical education in the Chinese textbook. Take the PEP edition of Chinese textbook for Junior High School as an example, the content is discursive and disorderly, divorced from real life, and in a monogamous presentation, which leads to the failure of the realization of the ethical educationfunction of Chinese in an all-round way, and sheds a shadow on the nurturing effect that teachers have on students in the process of Chinese teaching. Therefore, this paper analyzes the characteristics and limits of the content of ethical education in the PEP edition of Chinesetextbook for Junior High School with methods of analysis and statistics, following the guidance of the spirit and idea of the New Curriculum, combinedwith pedagogical, psychological, and ethical knowledge, to explore the perfect principles and requirements of the content of ethical education in the PEP editionof Chinese textbook for Junior High School.This paper consistsof four chapters. The first chapter pinpoints the connotation and specific contents of ethical education, and it elaborates the elementary and curricular roles of ethical education. Then it illustrates the requirements of ethical education with the characteristics of Chinese curriculum. Chapter two summarizes and analyzes the content of ethical education in the PEP edition Chinese textbook for Junior High School from two aspects. This covers the compositional systems including the selective articles, the assistant reading, the exercise and homework, and the comprehensive practice on the one hand; and the themes of each unit which are composed of “Human and Selves”, “Human and Society”, and “Human and Nature” on the other. The third chapter analyzes the characteristics of the content, which refer to the pertinence, discursiveness, and sensitiveness of its arrangement and presentation, in order to find out the deficiencies in it. The fourth chapter provides the suggestions to perfect the content of ethical education in Chinese textbook for Junior High School and the principles to apply, namely, the principle of the unity of knowing and doing, the principle of advancing with the times,and the principle of mutual penetration of different modules. Meanwhile, the content of ethical education in Chinese textbook for Junior High School should be oriented with concern of students, be closely connected with real life, and be diverse in forms to offer specific approaches to the perfection of the content of ethical education in the Chinese textbooks for Junior High School.
