With the informatization of basic education and the requirment of junior and senior high school geography curriculum standard, this thesis focuses on analysing and studying the geography teaching based on MOOC in middle school. The main research methods of this thesis are literature review method, questionnaire survey method, case study method and observation method. It aims to find an avenue in the geography teaching based on MOOC in middle school.Hybrid learning theory, geography teaching theory and educational communication theory are the theoretical foundations for this resarch, and there also have some related practical basis. In this thesis, the application of geography teaching based on MOOC in middle school were investigated by questionnaires. The difficulties that the current implementation of geography teaching based MOOC in middle school were analyzed. The implementation strategy of geography teaching based on MOOC in middle school were proposed from two aspects, namely, the principles and the conditions of implementation. The principle of subjectivity, openness principle, the principle of cooperation are included. The conditions of implementation are as follows, the conditions of supportive teaching environment, the conditions of teachers, the condition of students’learning ability and the teaching step of MOOC. Finally, this paper selected different forms of geography teaching case based on MOOC and traditional teaching. The idea of teaching design, teaching methods, teaching means, roles of teachers and students, teaching and learning time, and the traditional teaching were compared in detail analysis.In short, MOOC in basic education is different from that in higher education. In the field of basic education, it is mainly the combination of micro-lectures before class and flipped courses under class. Every coin has two sides, the same as MOOC. In our country, the implementation of it facing severe challenge. It is not a substitute for the traditional teaching, and there is no large-scale implementation at this stage.
